The new Eurocom Tornado F5 is Eurocom’s relatively inexpensive gaming laptop with desktop CPU and MXM GPU. It is based on something that looks like the MSI GT62VR, only with a desktop CPU (which is replaceable).
The F5 can be configured with an I5 Skylake or an I7 Skylake CPU, both offer much higher clocks, unlocked multiplier and higher TDP (which can be configured too). The I7-6700K also has more cache per core. Four DDR4 slots are available. As far as storage goes, the F5 has 2xM.2 2280 PCIe NVMe slots and 2.5″ 9mm bay. With a Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0 and mDP v1.2, the F5 offers a lot of performance and features for the price. The basic model comes with 8GB DDR4 RAM, so you’ll upgrade, but that’s not a problem.
I have a unit here for a review (which I haven’t done yet), but what I can say is that it can handle the heat if it’s properly cooled (and the bottom cover is a problem here).
For those who are looking for this kind of CPU and GPU performance and upgradability, the F5 is a very good option in my opinion, allowing for future upgrade of the CPU (for Kaby Lake desktop CPU) and future MXM GPUs.
